The Master’s Minute – Sharing Biblical Wisdom and Insights | Generosity Series 2025 Pt. III

November 18, 2025 by Jonathan Thompson

A church sits in front of a beautiful sunrise, shining like biblical wisdom, indicating the source and importance to the reader of the content.

Welcome back to another installment of our fourth quarter blog series! For this year, we are covering a value that is shared by many of our clients and friends: Generosity.

As a Christian, I see the importance of generosity as rooted in my faith in God. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has been abundantly generous to me (and every other person in the world who puts their faith and trust in Jesus as their sole means of salvation).

As a result, Christians are called by God to be generous to others out of gratitude for how God has been generous to us.

In today’s blog, we are using our platform to bring you a Biblically based discussion on the importance of generosity as an exercise of faith and purpose for Christians.

Let’s get started.

Generosity as an Exercise of Faith

The Bible has a lot to say about the topic of generosity. I want to highlight two passages as a way of illustrating the importance of being intentionally generous.

These verses are taken from the English Standard Version® of the Bible.

1 Timothy 6:17-19

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

In the above passage, Paul is giving Timothy instructions on the concept of generosity.

He starts by reminding us that everything we have is from God, given to us to enjoy. He then admonishes us to be intentional to use our time and resources to be generous and help others. He finishes by stating that this selfless generosity can enhance the life of the giver, both now and into eternity.

This leads us to the second passage, which clearly illustrates that the benefits extend beyond the receiver.

Proverbs 11:24-25:

One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.

This proverb highlights a very counterintuitive aspect of generosity: the giver can experience as much benefit as the receiver. It is certainly true that being generous does require some sacrifice, since it entails giving of our time or resources.

However, the giver will often realize that they experienced just as much joy and reward by giving as the person they were helping.

Intentional, Joyful Gratitude and Generosity

In conclusion, during the busyness of the holiday season, be sure to set aside some time to slow down and reflect on ways you can be thankful.

Then, be intentional to look for ways to use your time, talents, and resources to benefit others around you. Remember, December 2, 2025, is this year’s Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that gives us all the chance to shift our focus towards making an impact on our local, national, or global communities.
