Today’s blog is the first of a short series focusing on stewardship and generosity. The two featured topics are so fundamental to how we view financial planning at Master’s Advisors. Maybe it’s possible to do adequate financial planning without considering stewardship and generosity; but it will surely pale in comparison to planning that is centered on these two vital beliefs. We are passionate about incorporating both into your personal financial plans! We know they provide lasting impact and bring a deeper purpose to your planning experience.
Let’s first look at the topic of stewardship. Simply put, stewardship is the practice of “managing well”. It’s taking care of all the resources that have been entrusted to us. I learned this life lesson from my dad and mom as I was growing up. Whatever we had, we took care of it. This practice can apply to most areas of our lives, not just financial resources. However, viewing stewardship from a biblical world view begins with an understanding that God owns it all. He has appointed each one of us to act as the treasurer, or caretaker, of all the resources under our care, financial and otherwise. While this is an awesome responsibility, it also can be tremendously rewarding.
A great way to describe generosity is “living life with open hands”. A generous person has shifted their focus to how they can help and bless others, rather than making personal consumption their priority. A generous person will live their life as a giver, not a taker! Various research studies have shown that generous people also experience greater contentment and joy in their lives. At Master’s, we fully embrace this belief, both from our personal experiences, and observing it in many of your lives, as well.
We are looking forward to reading your thoughts and feedback over the next several weeks. In conclusion, enjoy reading one of my favorite quotes, shown below. It aligns with this blog series perfectly.
“To be smart, spend carefully.
To be wise, save regularly.
To be genius, give extravagantly.”
